Sailing to Lisboa for a local is a bit emotional and from a surprisingly unusual point of view. From Cascais to Lisbon the trip is along the coast line and once in river Tejo which its wide river mouth is watched by the Bugio island fortress you start to watch all the historical monuments along the river bank that were builded in memory of the glorious moment of national history of the unknown sea exploring which makes part of our culture: africa, brazil, india, indochina, ja
After sailing from Nazare to Cascais, Victoria crew informed staff on land that they would stay anchored there for a while enjoying the relaxed village of Cascais and its bay.
Cascais is posh village with a reasonable quiet rhythm, once elected place for exiled european monarch families (spanish, italian, romenian, french, etc.) during the 20th century 40’s and 50´s also spies from both sides enjoying the bourgeois living of a “neutral” country that accepted all foreign curre
From Nazare we left for one more day sailing to reach Peniche, a fishing harbour also famous for surfing.
During this leg of the trip the waves were huge but smooth, felt like Victoria was in a carousel gently floating the huge waves, sometimes surfing them, it was an overwhelming experience. Arriving at Peniche and after several tries to contact the harbour master (it was sunday…) and some attempts to anchor inside the sheltered zone captain decided to anchor close to the be
Porto-Nazare 24th September
Porto overall sightseeing was made and the forecast was showing a window of less choppy sea and maybe some wind. It was time to hit the sea sailors! Getting out of the river to the open sea was a bit of an adventure and the first show of weakness was given. But what should you do? Getting to the bunk and rest while the great adventurers did the job, turned out to be the best solution. Planning a day sailing until Aveiro, those plans had to be rea
20 - 23 September With the forecasts of some not so pleasant weather, Porto was the next spot to visit and maybe stay until Neptune relaxed. Arriving at Porto Marina, which is located in Douro River, you get a glimpse of the beautiful city and several bridges. The big marina located on the south bank is close to a typical fisherman's neighborhood of São Pedro da Afurada. Meaning that there’s lots of fresh fish restaurants to choose from and also some not so touristicall every
19 - 20 September Before arriving at Viana do Castelo, a day sailing from Baiona with a border crossing and a kind of an emotional national flag hoisting, feeling good wind coming. It’s a wonderful feeling when we are blessed by dolphins swimming alongside Victoria for a long time.
The city's small marina but nicely located had a perfect slot for Victoria and Rio Lima quiet streams, made all the process quite easy and smooth. Viana do Castelo is one of two Minho capital distr
Morning wake up and fog was dense, no islands or most boats anymore. Sailing to Baiona was going to require double care and some more looking up to Victoria electronic gizmos. (leave those nautical terms to the captain)
After some hours of sailing through dense fog, Baiona showed up suddenly in the mist, a big marina watched by the Monterreal Castle and with an illustrious resident: a replica of Columbus fleet fastest vessel Pinta which the original sailed acr

The permission to anchor, visit and dive at the archipelago of Islas Cies arrived.
The islands weren't that far but the fog was hiding them, making the trip feel longer and dramatic arrival also possible, with its sudden appearance. Anchorage procedures were done and it was time to take the dingy (dingy zingy) to the beach and visit the Isla de Faro.
Cies islands are a popular summer destination with a maximum 2200 visitors per day. But because we got to
No hurry but we were going to leave “busy” Vigo to their previous anchorage point: Enseada da Barra. More appealing to be anchored at a quiet cove waiting for permission from the nature park authorities to anchor at the Islas archipelago.
Right on the first day of sailing we were presented with dolphins swimming alongside Victoria. What a welcoming committee !
At the end of the night and already anchored the backdrop was a star filled sky and full moon
Vigo 12-13 September 2019 Traveling on a sailboat was a dream we add, but have never dreamed of doing it with friends and along our country coast line.
(Chief mate) Vali and (Captain) Mikko gave us that wonderful opportunity to hop on board their beloved S/Y Victoria, and share a bit of their sail the world enterprise, which started at Helsinki. Our experience has two ways to be narrated: exposing all the details kept in our minds or giving voice to our hearts. Hard to choose
Lasten kanssa viesteillessä, heiltä on tullut kommenttia "Ei tuo nyt ihan varsinaisesti lomalta kuulosta." No ei ainakaan löhölomalta.
